In a freak incident in Tripura a 15-year old girl was killed after a monkey bite her on Saturday. Pinki Das of Aralia Gram Panchayat of Charilam RD Block was attacked by a monkey a few days ago on her way back home from school. They aggressive monkey bit the minor girl and left her injured. Ironically, her mother could not afford required vaccination and before locals could come with assistance, the girl started showing symptoms of deadly rabies.
Later, she – belonging to a hapless poor family, developed symptoms of Rabies and ultimately succumbed. She hailed from Aralia in Charilam.
Pinki’s mother, a worker in a local ‘Bidi’ manufacturing unit could not afford her timely treatment. Her inability to treat the girl soon proved fatal as the girl she succumbed to her illness on Saturday evening.
“The family is so poor that, Pinaki’s mother Soma Das could not evev afford the last rites of her daughter. Locals extended helping hands towards the family for cremation.
Locals said, “A the girl was bitten by a monkey, the doctors advised us that a vaccine must be administered at the earliest, otherwise, things would become fatal. Pinki’s mother sought help from locals, but it was too late as Pinki had already developed some symptoms. With a deteriorating condition, she was been shifted to the hospital but to her ill-fate, her life could not be saved”.
The locals have also resented the role of the Forest department. Monkey menace in locality has become common. Every now and then, monkeys wreak havoc in the area.
With shrinking forest areas and lack of food, wild animals, particularly monkeys are venturing out and they destroy property and take away food. The minor girl of a poor family fell victim to monkey menace and died.
The forest department should take the responsibility”, said locals.
