A massive fire broke out at slum in Agartala on Tuesday night. Even as there was no report of any casualty, at least 10- 15 houses were gutted, preliminary report suggested.
Massive flame and smoke were observed in the skyline of Agartala soon after the fire at Bhati Abhoynagar slum area located in the city peripheries broke out.
Fire tenders and locals tried their best to douse the flame. As many as five fire tenders fought the fire that was threatening to spread. With the onset of dry season, fire in the slum could wreck havoc in the city periphery. However, as fire service personnel reached the spot and swung into prompt action, situation remained under control.
Almost after an hour, the fire was subdued in a great extent. However, sources said that it would take more than three to four hours to control the fire completely. Till the report filling at 12 night, Fire tenders were working to douse the fire.
According to preliminary reports, at least 10 to 15 residential houses were reduced to ashes in the fire. There is no report of any loss of life, so far. Local MLA went to the spot.
No official confirmation was available to ascertain the cause of the fire. However, locals suspected that a electric short circuit. “It is suspected that fire was triggered by a short circuit from a house where some e-carts were kept for recharging the batteries”, said one of the locals.
