In a shocking and inhuman incident, a woman was tied with a pillar and was publicly thrashed by a group of five other women. The incident took place at the victim’s locality under Airport Police station in Agartala on Sunday. Police arrested all the five women involved in thrashing.
Sources said, at least five other women continued assaulting, abusing and manhandling her for a long period. Even, a video clip of the inhuman incident was also shot and widely circulated in social media platforms inviting serious repercussions and condemnation from the netizens.
All the five women had been arrested by the police followed by an FIR and all the accused persons were produced before the Court with a prayer of jail custody interrogation. The victim had been hospitalized after the incident and local sources said, she was released after treatment.
Police sources said, the victim woman and the one of the accused woman were in conflicts since the last two years. The victim used to work as a mason in construction sites and in this course, she reportedly developed an illicit relationship with a man – husband of the prime accused woman.
Since the last two years, verbal confrontations, sometimes, physical tussle were common sight between the two women.
Saturday’s incident was an outburst of the long accumulated grudge, a source in the police department said in the condition of anonymity.
SDPO NCC Piyamadhuri Majumder said, “We have arrested five persons so far in connection with the incident and all of them have been produced before the Court”.
Public prosecutor Rahul Banik who pleaded the Court on behalf of the police said, “The police moved a prayer of jail custody and interrogation of the accused persons. However, the court is yet to pronounce its order”.
