Chaotic situation prevailed at IGM hospital Agartala on Saturday night after death of a male patient.

A group of unruly people trespassed into the hospital building and started ransacking valuable papers and properties purportedly because of the death of the patient whom they claimed to be their kin.

Sources said, none of the miscreants could be identified but the police had accessed the CCTV footage and began a probe after the on-duty health staff and medical officers lodged an FIR with the Police.

Dr. Asish Kar, medical superintendent in-charge of the hospital narrating the incident said, late on Saturday evening, an unknown patient was admitted in the male medicine ward of the hospital in an unconscious stage. The patient was later diagnosed as hypertensive. Accordingly, on-duty medical officers made all the necessary medical arrangements for his treatment. Dr Kar added, the patient was shifted to the hospital through 102 emergency ambulance service and no attendant was there for the patient.

Despite all the efforts, he said, the patient expired at around 10:55 in the night. Soon the troubles began. A group of unruly people mostly in reportedly inebriated condition stormed inside the hospital building and started damaging hospital properties.

They misbehaved with nursing staff, hurled abuses on the staff. They entered the main building after overpowering the private security persons posted in the gates.

Later, they were driven out of the hospital by the security staff and TSR posted in the hospital entrance. The miscreants claimed that the unknown patient was not given the necessary treatment he required and due the patient died due to lack of proper treatment, he said.

After knowing about last night’s incident, IGM hospital Rogi Kalyan Samiti chairman MLA Dr. Dilip Kumar Das rushed to the spot this morning. An FIR was lodged against the miscreants and police had started an inquiry to trace the people involved in this, Dr Dilip Kumar Das said.
