Opposition Left Front in Tripura on Saturday took the lead and released the candidate list for the ensuing TTAADC elections being the first political alliance to come up with its nominees. When political parties including ruling BJP, IPFT and other regional outfits are busy in solving the pre-poll equations to have an equitable share, the Left Front announced the names of its candidates with majority of them contesting the polls as fresher. In the 28 names list of the party, 17 candidates are new and most of the candidates come from an age group that is below 50.
“We have tried our best to analyze the performance reports of previous contestants and then fielded the new ones. In case of the new arrivals, emphasis has been given on educational background”, Left Front Convener Bijan Dhar explained. And, “certainly all the candidates belong to the Left political backdrops” , Dhar replied to a query.
Moreover, among the 28 candidates, four candidates are female including an advocate. The CPIM, which is the biggest constituent of the Left Front, gets 25 candidates while other parties like RSP, CPI and Forward Bloc have to satisfy themselves with one candidate each. Former Chief Executive Member of the TTAADC, Radhacharan Debbarma, who had just completed a term in the TTAADC had been re-nominated from Jirania constituency from where he contested previous elections also. Among the big changes, former Chairman of the Left ruled TTAADC, Ranjit Debbarma did not get nomination this time.
Dhar later said that the Left Front was the only alternative left for the people in the TTAADC. “The development activities that have been carried out by the Left Front in the TTAADC areas come to a stagnant situation nowadays. A section of people are enjoying all the privileges and the lion’s share of population in the hills is left in distress. We are once again appealing to people to ensure Left’s victory in the ADC in order to help the party revive the democratic norms, right to dissent and protests in the state”, Dhar said.
Dhar accompanied by other leaders of the Left Front parties also said that their movement against divisive and corporate friendly forces would continue. “We don’t want a separate state. We are demanding that much of autonomy as to what can be given to the TTAADC areas remaining within the limits of constitution”, Dhar added.
