Belonia Municipality Council under South Tripura bagged the ‘best City in Citizens Feedback’ award announced by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in its annual ranking exercise, namely Swachh Survekshan 2020.
Belonia Municipality Council got selection in population less than 25,000 category Urban Local Body (ULB) section.
Besides, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat occupied the 5th position, Dharmanagar Municipality Council secured the 6th position, Mohanpur Municipality Council got the 10th position and Udaipur Municipality Council bagged the 14th position in the Swachh Survekshan 2020 under Northeastern regiona category. Director of Urban Development department of Government of Tripura, Dr Sanjeev Mahatme said this in Agartala on Thursday.
Dr Mahatme also pointed out prime targets of ULBs. He said, the main objectives of ULBs is to maintain ODF status, collection of wastes from every household using the service of women run SHGs, management and recycling of different sorts of wastes etc. Dr Mahatme also spelt our future plans and said, waste separation centers and tertiary recycling units would be set up in Urban areas as part of better waste management.
Under the population less than 25,000 category, Jiribam ULB of Manipur bagged the ‘cleanest City’ award in Swachh Survekshan 2020.
Notably, Swachh Survekshan is an annual ranking exercise taken up by the MoHUA to assess urban areas of country on their levels of cleanliness and active implementation of Swachhta mission initiatives in a timely and innovative manner. The objective of survey is to encourage large scale citizen participation and create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities a better place to live in.
In addition, survey also seeks to promote a spirit of healthy competition between towns and cities; to improve the quality of their services to people, and create cleaner cities and towns, read the Executive Summary of the Swachh Survekshan 2020.
The annual exercise started in 2016. In the 2020 exercise, the coverage of survey was 4242 cities (including 62 Cantonment Boards).
