Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Polls are scheduled to be conducted on April 6 next and counting of votes will be held on April 8 next. Meanwhile, curtains have been drawn on three-day long voting through Postal ballots on Friday. A total of eight thousand 546 voters exercised their democratic rights through postal ballots for TTAADC Polls. Facilitation Centers were opened at respective offices of Returning Officers for smooth voting exercises.

During this three-day long exercise, people deputed for conducting TTAADC polls, security personnel, several other people engaged in the polling related activities, concerned drivers and Safai workers cast their votes through postal ballots.

To review and assess the prevailing situation, the State Election Commissioner held a Video Conference with District Magistrates and Superintendent of Police of the eight districts as well as a total of 16 Returning Officers today.

As the polling is ensuing, campaigning by all the Political Parties has gained momentum. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is spearheading the campaigns for BJP-IPFT alliance along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and other BJP State leaders. IPFT supremo NC Debbarma and Mever Kumar Jamatia are also holding meetings and rallies.

AICC Central Observer for Tripura, Kuljit Singh Nagra arrived in State to campaign for Congress nominated candidates. Pradyot Kishore Debbarman is also canvassing for his newly floated TIPRA Motha party candidates. For the Leftists, who ruled the TTAADC, it was ex-Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and GMP leader Jitendra Choudhury along with outgoing CEM Radha Charan Debbarma who are trying to garner support for the Leftists.

Besides, several Independent Candidates are also in the fray. Congress is the only party in this election which is fighting the poll battle alone. After a long period of uncertainty, BJP and IPFT amicably agreed to a seat sharing formula and announced to fight in alliance except in three seats. Meanwhile, Pradyot Kishore was successful in bringing other smaller regional parties like INPT, TSP etc under its fold and floated TIPRA. CPM is fighting the polls as a partner of Left Front and shared a few seats to its partners.

If campaigns are any indication, it is safe to say that the poll battle will be a keenly contested battle.
