The opposition CPM accused BJP of pushing ‘outsiders’ in the Autonomous District Council areas and threatening the Left Front voters. In a letter to the State Election Commission, CPM State Committee Secretary Gautam Das sought Commission’s intervention ‘to frustrate anti-democratic move of the ruling party’.
In the letter Das apprehended that the BJP cadres were getting inside the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas in its desperate bid to overpower the booths and ‘manipulate’ the election.
“For this purpose, the local BJP leaders are issuing slips to their cadres to take fuel from local pumps this afternoon and start roaming”, read the letter.
The party also mentioned that, in areas like Kanchanpur, Kamalpur, Ambassa, Gandacherra and Longthorawi Valley, Khowai, the BJP workers were moving inside the villages on board light vehicles or motor cycles to threaten Left voters. The voters were being threatened not to come out to cast their votes.
Highlighting some specific information, the letter added that in 9-Halahali-Asharambari constituency, the BJP leaders had been spotted distributing money to the villagers openly. The RO and the SDPO of the area had been informed but no steps were taken in connection of the incident.
The party also listed some of the similar instances at Sabroom, 8-Gandacherra-Ganganagar, Dasda, Laljuri and some other areas where voters were coming under threats.
Das also said that CPM had already urged the Commission to take steps to prevent ‘onslaughts of the bike-ridden’ BJP supporters who were creating panic among the voters.
The party requested the State Election Commission, once again, to take adequate measures so that voters could exercise their universal adult franchise without being influenced or intimidated by anything.
