Two separate mishaps: 2 dead
At least two persons died and 2 injured in two separate mishaps at Panisagar and Kanchanpur on Wednesday.
One person, identified as Dhirendra Nath (51) was found lying grievously injured near the rail track at Panisagar today morning. He was rushed to the local Community Hospital from where he was referred to Dharmanagar District Hospital. However, on the way to the hospital, he succumbed.
Family members said, Nath – a daily wage earner by profession, went to Panisagar Market last night. However, he did not return and his family members got information today morning that he was lying near the rail track. Even as it seems that Nath was hit by a train, family members are suspecting foul play. Police started an investigation.
In another incident, one 23-year old woman died and two injured when a car fell down in a ditch on the way from Sabual to Simlung at Jampui Hill today. In the incident Basanti Reang (23) of Sabual died on the spot. Besides driver Peka Reang and one passenger, N. Kimi were injured seriously. Later the dead and injured persons were shifted to Kanchanpur Subdivision Hospital.
Plight of students : 4 teachers for 83 students
Pekuajala High School, located close to the office of the Inspectorate of Schools in Sepahijala District in Tripura is riddled with multiple problems including the serious dearth of teachers.
Local sources said, there are 83 students in the school. Even as there are sufficient classrooms, students of different classes are forced to sit together during classes due to a shortage of teachers. There are only four teachers in the school.
Local people and school authority appealed to higher authority to address the teachers’ crisis issue – however, nothing positive happened, so far, sources said.
“It is impossible to tackle the students with only four teachers. As a result, teachers have to club together different classes into one class”, locals said and added, it is incomprehensible for us as to how the government would provide quality education in such a scenario.
While the shortage of teachers is a burning problem that is hampering the studies, students are also facing a water crisis. One tubewell is the only source of drinking water. Works to construct a tank for storing water started but the concerned Engineer of the left the works after completing one-third of the works. Thereafter, the school authority could not contact either the Engineer or the Gram Pradhan.
