The IPFT – ally of ruling BJP-IPFT coalition Government in Tripura has called a 24-hour strike on May 22 next protesting against the attack on party’s supremo NC Debbarma at Takarjala under Sepahijala District.

It was being alleged that supporters of TIPRA Motha which wrest control of Tripura District Council from CPM were behind the attack.

Notably, hundreds of people, reportedly belonging to TIPRA Motha waved black flags at NC Debbarma and raised ‘Go back’ slogan at Takerjala while he was holding an organizational meeting there on May 19.

Announcing the strike, IPFT General Secretary and Forest Minister of Tripura Mevar Kumar Jamatia said, “The IPFT strongly condemns the attack on the senior most leader of our party NC Debbarma and we demand immediate action against the culprits involved in the attack. NC Debbarma is a well respected politician of the state and such attacks on a personality like him has only exposed the intention of TIPRA motha before all”.

He alleged that the incident was pre-planned and those who were involved in the attacks were already identified as volunteers of TIPRA Motha party.

“In the party’s central executive committee meeting held this morning, it was decided that a strike would be called to mark a protest against such attack”, he said.

According to Mevar Kumar Jamatia, IPFT MLA Dhirendra Debbarma was also attacked at Belbari area on Thursday.

“A mob led by TIPRA Motha MDC Ganesh Jamatia attacked the vehicle of the MLA. Six persons sustained injuries during the attacks”, he added.

Referring to post-ADC Poll violence in different parts of the ADC areas, Jamatia also demanded compensation for the victims of post-election violence.

“More than 100 families had been affected by the violence and the IPFT party urged the government to compensate them”, he added.

According to him, Tipra Motha supporters were threatening the Government officials and were trying to hold control over everything. “The rule of law should be equal for everyone. Those who are inciting violence should be brought to the books”, he added.
