In view of ongoing Corona scare, advocate Bhaskar Debbarma filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court of Tripura and after hearing the PIL, the High Court served a notice to the State Government on several issues pertaining to Covid19.
The Court also stipulated a time period of seven days for filling a detailed affidavit by the Government on the issues mentioned in the notice.
The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A A Kureshi and Justice S Talapatra heard the PIL.
Speaking to media, Advocate Romela Guha, appearing for the litigant detailed about the points raised through the PIL and said, three specific issues have been raised through the PIL. The first point in the list of the matters mentions whether Covid infected patients are being sent to the Hospital after a medical checkup. In the second point, the petitioner Bhaskar Debbarma wanted to know from the state government regarding the availability of oxygen. In the third point, Debbarma wanted to know about availability of medicines, equipment, ventilators and other related materials.
The Court after hearing the petition issued notices to the state government directing it revert within one week of time, Romela Guha said. According to her, all the Covid 19 related petitions were clubbed together and fixed to be heard after one week.
Apart from Guha, advocate Niharika Sarma, Dhruba Jyoti Saha, Mrinmoy Debnath also appeared on behalf of Debbarma. Advocate General Siddhartha Sankar Dey pleaded the Court on behalf of the state government.
