Brishaketu Debbarma, an IPFT MLA who resigned on Tuesday from his Assembly membership, did not appear in person to submit the resignation letter to the Speaker of the Assembly, instead he sent the letter through a messenger. As this is not the right procedure to submit a resignation letter, Speaker of Tripura State Assembly Rebati Mohan Das did not find it valid.

Brishaketu’s resignation was not accepted, Das told the media on Wednesday. Answering queries on Brishaketu’s resignation letter said, “Before submitting the resignation letter, Brishaketu called up me and said that he was coming to meet me. However he did not come, instead his messenger delivered a letter to me. This is not the right procedure and due ‘procedural gap’, his resignation letter was not accepted”, Das said.

The Speaker also told the media that the concerned MLA must remain present while submitting the resignation letter to the Assembly Speaker. Notably, Brishaketu Debbarma cited ‘personal reason’ for tendering resignation.

Brishaketu Debbarma remained incommunicado throughout the Day as his phone was found switched off. Even the Speaker also could not communicate with him.

Interestingly, Brishaketu Debbarma’s party leaders seem to be clueless as to what prompted him to tender his resignation.

Meanwhile, Political circle was busy in finding out the next move by the MLA – speculation ran high and people were curious to know whether he would join TIPRA Motha and seek re-election from his Simna Constituency on TIPRA Ticket. Amidst such speculations and quietness of IPFT, the statement of the Speaker came up mentioning that Brishaketu’s resignation letter was not accepted.
