TMC and BJP breathed fire at each other as the war of words between Bengal based TMC leaders and local BJP leaders remained unabated as both the parties held separate press meets in Agartala on Monday and breathed fire at each other.
Addressing the press meet, TMC leaders of West Bengal – Kumal Ghosh and Samir Chakraborty – continued to criticize the State Government accusing BJP of throttling democracy, lack of rule of law in the State, running undeclared emergency in the State etc.
They continued to ask as to why Police had not arrested persons involved in attack on Abhishelk Banerjee’s vehicle. In today’s press meet, TMC leaders claimed ground in Tripura is ready for a ‘silent revolution’ in 2023 Assembly polls in favour of TMC.
However, when asked about the organizational committee and office bearers, TMC leaders avoided giving any specific reply, instead they told the media persons to keep watching.
Ghosh and Chakraborty also criticized the Governor for not giving a time to meet a delegation of TMC. Ghosh said, when a team of TMC sought appointment to meet the Governor, his office said he is busy till August 15.
After the TMC press meet, BJP MLA Sushanta Chowdhury and BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty met the press. Chowdhury did not give much importance to TMC. He reasoned, TMC does not have any acceptable State level leader, there are no committees of the party, they have no representation in PRI bodies and they do not even have any concrete support base in the State.
Chowdhury also alleged Leftists in Tripura are fast losing grounds. TMC is eyeing to capture Delhi, TMC needs support of all against BJP. In Tripura, TMC will create some space for CPI-M.
Citing these shortcomings, which will be difficult to address within next 17 months, Chowdhury said, BJP considers CPI-M, even though the party is fast losing electoral relevance in the State, as the main opponent as they have 16 MLAs at present – moreover, they still have some sorts of supports.
