ABVP activists and D.El.Ed students held a protest programme at North Gate in Agartala on Wednesday. They were protesting against lathi-charge by Police on their peaceful agitation at Shikhsha Bhavan on Tuesday.

In the protest rally, the ABVP leaders demanded actions against the SDPO and other Police officials as well as transfer of secretary of Education department Soumya Gupta and Director of the Higher Education NC Sharma. The leaders also said that they would hold such protest programmes to expose the ugly faces of the Police at 100 locations in the State.

Speaking to the media, Pritam Pal, ABVP Tripura Pradesh Secretary said, “We were holding a peaceful demonstration at Shikhsha Bhavan on Tuesday in support of holding online exams for D.El.Ed students. After a 7-hour long demonstration, Police came up and asked us to vacate the place. Without any provocation, Police resorted to lathi-charge and left at least 25 students injured”.

Pal trained his guns at the Police Officials and blamed SDPO Ramesh Yadav for leading the lathi-charge on ‘innocent’ students and ABVP Karyakartas.

He also told the media, “We will urge the Chief Minister to initiate departmental inquiry against the SDPO and concerned other Police officers”.

The ABVP leaders were also critical about the role of the Director of Higher Education Department and secretary of the Education Department.

“The Education department is in slumber. In view of the present situation, we are demanding action against Soumya Gupta and NC Sharma. They should not remain in Education Department”, Pritam Pal said.

In today’s protest programme, the ABVP leaders, once again, raised the demand for conducting online examinations for D.El.Ed students instead of proposed offline exams.
