Political violence triggered tension and panic at Udaipur in Tripura after CPM and BJP supporters had a violent faceoff at Jamtala. One of the BJP activists, Mafiz Mia, was critically injured and was rushed to GB Hospital. His condition was stated to be serious till the report filing. Several others were also injured.
Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy Agriculture minister Pranajit Singha Roy rushed to the spot soon after the clash and took stock of the situation. He talked with the Police Officers. Soon, a large contingent of security personnel was pressed into service to restore normalcy.
Later speaking to the media, the minister said that the youth wing of CPI-M had brought out a rally without taking prior permission from police.
“When police tried to stop the CPI-M rally, they indulged in violence, injuring several people. A BJP activist- Mofiz Miah, who was passing by, faced severe attack and received critical injuries. Besides, a hotel was vandalized and some houses were ransacked,” Singha Roy told the media.
He said the government would take legal action against those who were involved in the violence. Even if any policeman is found to be involved in the incident, the government would act tough, he said, adding that two persons were already arrested in connection with the attack on the BJP activist.
The minister held Opposition Leader Manik Sarkar responsible for such incidents right from the Monday violence at Dhanpur. Tension in the twon and adjoining areas is palpable.
Meanwhile, video footage of wounded Mafiz Mia irked the BJP supporters in other areas. Even before violent situation in Udaipur became under control, trouble started at Bishalgarh under Sepahijala District. A two-storied CPM party office was ransacked and set on fire. Also, house of a CPM leader came under attack.
