The State Government is not planning to implement the Inner Line Permit Act at present. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb informed the House on Monday. He also informed the House about status of barbed wire fencing and Nesha Mukt abhiyan.

 

The two-day Assembly commenced on September 24 last. On the first day, new Speaker was Ratan Chakraborty was elected without a contest. Later, led by Leader of the Opposition, Manik Sarkar, CPM MLAs walked out of the House and boycotted the entire session. On Monday, five bills were passed in the Assembly through voice vote. The House rose today evening and adjourned sine-die.

 

While replying to question raised by MLA Dhananjoy Tripura on Monday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb told the House that the State Government has no plan, as of now, to introduce Inner Line Permit Act in the State. 

 

On another note, while replying to a question on barbed wire fencing raised by MLA Sudhangshu Das , the Chief Minister said, works completed for constructing barbed wire fencing in 700.77 km stretch of India-Bangladesh border. Central Government requested for an early completion of the works in remaining stretch.  

 

Replying to a question raised by MLA Sankar Roy, Deb said the state government is committed and working to transform Tripura into a drug-free state. Deb said Home Minister Amit Shah in the last NEC meeting called for Neshamukt North East by 2022 and the North East Chief Ministers are also working on priority basis to achieve the goal.

 

Giving details, Deb told the House that 1930 persons have been arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act- 1985 in three previous three years- 2018, 2019 and 2020. Besides, 11 persons have been arrested under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act- 1988.

 

In the same period, five joint raids were carried out by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Tripura Police, Deb informed the House.

 

Commenting on a public interest Notice brought in reference period by MLA Pramod Reang, the Chief Minister said, indigenous people have faith on BJP-IPFT as the Government is sincerely working for the development of Janajati.

 

He said, “Injustice was meted out to people of Janajati for a long period. Development in Indigenous dominated areas was seriously hampered due to the insurgency. Deb highlighted several initiatives including the rehabilitation of displace Bru in Tripura and said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned Rs 1300 crore for the development of ADC areas”.

 

He informed the House the Central Government is regularly monitoring the development of the indigenous people. Among others, Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, MLA Atul Debbarma and other MLAs also spoke on the Notice.
