In an attempt to help the marginalized people and people of remote areas in accessing justice, local Post offices in Tripura will provide free legal aid to people. Post Office staff will help the person desirous of availing the legal services in filling up the required application form.
.
“After filing the application form, it would be sent to the concerned Legal Aid authority through the postal department. For this purpose, pre-stamped envelopes will be available in the Post Offices”, District secretary of District Legal Services Authority, A Debbarma said in a press release.
A person living in a village or remote area, desirous of filing a complaint will not have to travel to Legal Aid offices. This step will make accessing free legal aid easier. It will also act as a bridge to narrow the accessibility to justice.
To implement this facility, training will be imparted to Postal department personnel and workforce of Post offices.
In West District Sessions Court premises, a training programme was conducted for 29 such staff on September 26 last. The West District Legal Aid authority imparted the training which was inaugurated by the Judge of the High Court of Tripura, Justice Subhashish Talapatra. He is also the Executive Chairman of the State Legal Aid Services authority.
In the training camp, Senior System Officer of the Tripura High Court, Prasenjit Pal imparted training on Mobile App for legal services. Interested persons may also apply through this mobile App and the Postal department staff will help the applicant, if necessary.
