Tripura Pradesh Congress will raise demand for the creation of 19 Development Councils for 19 different tribes as well as for 41 categories of OBC people of the State for holistic development of the communities.  Tripura Pradesh Congress chief Birajit Sinha said on Friday that the Party would hold programmes to materialize the demand.

“There are 19 indigenous communities live in the State. Congress will demand a separate development council for each of the 19 tribes in accordance with the Indian Constitution. Besides, Central leaders from Delhi will visit Tripura by the end of the current month and hold meetings with 150 ST leaders in ADC areas”, Sinha said.

He also demanded Development Councils for 41 other OBC category people for the welfare of these people.

Explaining further the concept of Development Council, Sinha said, “Tarun Gagoi, the former Chief Minister of Assam, introduced the concept of Development Council in Assam and it was a big success. Development Council for individual tribe and OBC category will pave way for respective socio-economic and cultural development. Representatives from the individual community will form the Council and Government will allocate fund for every Council which will be spent for the upliftment of the community”.

Apart from forthcoming programmes for ST people, State Congress has decided to launch programmes to win supports of the minority communities and OBCs as well.

“State Congress will facilitate 300 Hazis belonging to the minority community. At present, 24 per cent is reserved for OBC people in the State – however, Congress will agitate to increase it to 27 per cent. To this end, we are planning to conduct a convention”, Sinha commented.

Referring to the Chief Minister’s stress for attaining self-reliance through animal husbandry, poultry and business activities, Sinha welcomed the call and demanded Rs 2 lakh loan under the Mudra scheme for 3 lakh youths to start those activities.

Sinha also said that a workshop with 1000 Congress workers will be organized in the first week of December.
