Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and supporters held demonstrations and gheraoed the State Election Commission (SEC) Office in Agartala and a Police Station in Kailashahar on Friday.
While TMC gheraoed the SEC in demand of free and fair civic body polls, at Kailashahar, TMC activists gheraoed the Kailashahar Police Station demanding arrests of miscreants involved in attacking and assaulting a TMC leader, Ashish Lal Singh on Thursday evening.
Several Bengal based Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and party’s MP Sushmita Dev of Assam along with local activists raised question on the role of the State Election Commission (SEC) and gheraoed the office demanding a free and fair Civic body Polls in Tripura scheduled to be held on November 25 next.
Speaking to the media, Sushmita Dev said she doesn’t have faith in the State Election Commission. She raised a demand for an independent observer – a retired judge of the High Court or the Supreme Court– for the ensuing civic polls.
Echoing the same, Bengal based Babul Supriyo, who also joined the protest in Agartala, alleged that bike-borne miscreants are attacking the TMC workers in various places and intimidating the people.
Expressing hope, he said that the petition in the Supreme Court on the demand of appointing an independent observer would bring affirmative results.
Besides, some other leaders from West Bengal including Sayantika Banerjee and Sayoni Ghosh also participated in the agitation along with TMC’s Tripura steering committee convenor Subal Bhowmik.
Meanwhile, the official Facebook handle of AITC said party’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee would visit Tripura again on November 22 next to boost up the party’s campaign.
Even as the Party is desperately trying to make inroads in Tripura, TMC leaders are yet to form any State Committee.
