As expected, the ruling BJP is heading towards a landslide victory in Civic Body Polls in Tripura routing the Opposition Parties. The Polls were held on November 25 last. Trinamool Congress party’s Muslim Vote poll planks falls flat in Muslim dominated wards across the State.
A closer look at the results highlights dismal performance of the Trinamool Congress despite its aggressive campaign spearheaded by star studded Kolkata based leaders. The performance of the TMC in ward no 5 of AMC is also a damper for the disgruntled BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman.
However, a politically significant fact surfaced as results of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat and Kailashahar Municipal Council show BJP won in all of the seats in these areas – many of which are Muslim dominated.
“Muslim votes are determining factor in many wards of these Urban Local Bodies which the Trinamool Congress (TMC) failed to draw in its favour. As most of the Muslim population is concentrated in Sonamura and Kailashar areas, failure of the TMC clearly indicates that its West Bengal tactics came as a cropper in Tripura”, Poll analysts observed.
The TMC brought Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim to campaign for TMC candidates in Sonamura – however, results show that TMC pushed down to the third position in as many as four wards out of the 13-ward Sonamura NP. While BMS backed independent candidate came in fourth position, CPM captured the second position.
Kailashahar, another urban area where Muslim votes are determining factors in some of the wards, also rendered Bengal model based voting exercise futile – as BJP candidates marched to victories comfortably in all of the Muslim dominated wards.
According to the poll analysts, results of Ward No 5 under the AMC came as a shocker to Sudip Roy Barman as the TMC candidate in Ward 5, who is a close confident of Roybarman, came in the third position.
“Despite all the hypes and tall claims, TMC has decisively failed to cast a noticeable impact on Muslim vote in Tripura and victories of BJP candidates clearly indicate that Muslim in Tripura voted en masse in favour of the saffron party candidates”, Agartala based poll analysts opined.
