Trinamool Congress expressed satisfaction at its performance in Civic Body Polls in Tripura, however the main Opposition of the State CPM blamed BJP for turning the poll process a into travesty.
Addressing a press conference, West Bengal based TMC leader from West Bengal Rajib Banerjee said the party which had only 0.3 percent vote share in the 2018 assembly polls and now emerged as the main opposition with over 20 percent vote share in AMC and other places where the TMC contested.
Banerjee claimed, the TMC’s surge despite the ‘violence’ against the party workers, large-scale ‘vote rigging’ during the poll day gave a clear message that TMC would form government in the state in 2023 polls.
TMC state convener Subal Bhowmik hailed the three-tier security arrangements and said that the party didn’t have any complaint regarding the counting of votes. He said such security arrangement should have been done like this from the beginning of the election process. He mentioned, some party activists were injured in Teliamura when they were returning from counting halls.
Soon after the result of the Municipal Polls was declared the opposition CPI-M had accused the ruling party of turning the entire polling process into farce.
In a press release, CPM said, “The ruling BJP party has turned the municipal election into farce taking the advantage of complete failure of the state election commission, police and state general administration.”
“It has become clear from this election that the battle against the attempt to throttle the voice of democracy needs to be strengthened more for the welfare of the peace-loving people of this state. The Left Front will continue to work with the people,” CPM leaders said.
CPI-M, which won in all the urban bodies in last civic body polls, has won only in three seats across three urban bodies—Kailashahar and Ambassa Municipal Councils and Panisagar Nagar panchayat.
