While people of Tripura were glued into TV screens to know the outcome of Civic Body Polls, the first ever Adivasi Mahasabha in Tripura was held on Sunday.

 

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda attended the programme which was held at Belchhara High School ground at Khowai. All Adivasi Students’ Association of Tripura organized the Adivasi Mahasabha programme. The theme of the Mahasabha was ‘Education is the movement from darkness to light’. Among others, Janjati Welfare Minister of Tripura Mever Kumar Jamatia was also present.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Arjun Munda highlighted different initiative of Modi-led government for improving the quality of education imparted to the Adivasi people.

 

He said, “Initiatives have been taken to set up one Ekalabya Residential School in every block in Adivasi dominated areas across the country. The objective of this initiative is to improve to quality of education”.

 

Munda also said, the government has sanctioned establishment of 463 Ekalabya Residential schools in the current year.

 

“Apart from providing quality education to Tribal people, the Government has focused on development of traditional culture and customs of Adivasi people. Also the government has stressed the need to deliver health care service, expansion of drinking water supply facility, Patta distribution under the Forest Rights Act”, he said.

 

Mever Kumar Jamatia highlighted several initiatives of the State Government for the holistic development of Janjati people of the State.

 

In the programme, Khowai Zilla sabhadhipati Joydeb Debbarma, MLA Prashanta Debbarma, president of Jharkhand Bharat Munda Samaj Sushil Pahan, president of Odisha Bharat Munda Samaj Rabindra Singh Munda, president of Asia Young Indigenous People’s Network (Philippines) Dr Minakshi Munda and other dignitaries were also present.
