Water treatment plants will be set up in urban areas where there is complains of existence of iron in drinking water and the State government will sanction required fund for this purpose, said Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Minister Sushanta Choudhury.

 

A joint meeting of the DWS and Urban Development department was held in Agartala on Friday to review the status of drinking water supply in Urban Local Body (ULB) areas including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area. DWS Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Urban Development Minister Santana Chakma along with the concerned high officials discussed in detail present status relating to achieving the target of supplying drinking water to every household of ULBs.

 

Taking part in the review meeting, Chowdhury said the joint meeting aimed at reviewing the ground realities pertaining to the water supply in AMC and other ULBs.

 

“Our target is to ensure supply of drinking water to every section of population living in ULBs. There are some problems. Even as most of the problems have been solve, yet some still exist. Detailed discussions was held to make sure that concerned personnel will soon address and fix the issues”, he said.

 

Referring to providing iron free drinking water, Chowdhury said, in some wards, people complained about presence of iron in water. We will set up water treatment plants to ensure iron free water supply.

 

Secretary of Drinking Water and Sanitation department- Kiron Gitte, AMC Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Director of Urban Development department- Tamal Majumder and other officials were present in the meeting.
