As many as six Rohingyas including four children were held in Tripura on Saturday.

Acting on an intelligence input, the Kailasahar police detained the Rohingyas from a residence at Ichqbpur Gram Panchayat Ward No. 4 under Kailasahar today.

Based on the information, a large posse of police led by Officer Narayan Deb conducted a raid at a residence of one Shehnaz Ali at Ichqbpur and found six Rohingyas in the house. Police brought them to Kailashahar Police Station.

The Rohingyas identified as 32 years old Abdul Rakhim, his 30 years old wife Johar Khatun and four children – a girl (14) and three boys of ages 8 years, 4 years and 3 months. Abdul Rakhim and his family hailed from Myanmar. According to him, they had been residing in the Rohingya camp in Chittagong, Bangladesh for the last five years.

Most shockingly, Abdul Rakhim reportedly also told the Police that his mother and his elder brother had been living in Delhi for the past several years.  He continued and said, both of them came to Kailasahar from the Rohingya camp in Chittagong, Bangladesh. During their stay at Kailashahar, Abdul’s mother and his elder brother obtained relevant Indian citizenship documents and went to Delhi.

Accordingly, he too planned to arrive in Kailashahar along with his wife and children. They escaped from the Rohingya camp in Chittagong, Bangladesh and entered Shillong through the Dauki border of Meghalaya and ultimately reached Kailashahar by train. Abdul Rakhim further said that they were supposed to go to Delhi from Shahnaz Ali’s house after getting their Aadhaar card and other papers.

Abdul’s reported confession has created a buzz in Kailashahar and local people are hoping that Police would be able to unearth the racket active behind the fake document preparations.
