Tripura will be prosperous if villages become prosperous, the State will attain self-reliance if villages emerge self-reliant, said Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday and added, the State Government is working to empower rural people especially the womenfolk.
While attending an assistance distribution camp at Charilam under Sepahijala district, Varma said, “The present government is trying to make Tripura a self-sufficient state by making everyone, especially women, self-reliant from the village level.”
The financial assistance distribution programme aimed at developing an intensive mulberry nursery in Sepahijala district. The programme was organized as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
In order to develop mulberry cultivation, a total of Rs. 31 crore will be provided in several instalments as financial assistance to 1600 mulberry farmers of Sepahijala district under the Intensive Bivoltine Sericulture Development Project (IBSDP) scheme.
To this end, the Deputy Chief Minister distributed Rs 1.20 lakh to each of the 15 mulberry farmers as the first instalment during programme.
Varma highlighted the immense potentials of mulberry cultivation in Tripura. In this context, he mentioned the recent achievement of production of high quality of mulberry.
Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Datta, Chairman of Tripura Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Balai Goswami have attended the programme while Chairman of Charilam Panchayat Samiti, Rakhi Das Kar presided over the programme.
