For the future generation to grow up properly, physical well-being is as important as mental well-being. Sport is one of the means of developing physical strength and mental thinking-consciousness and intelligence. Besides, Sports can act as an important deterrent to addiction. The Tripura government is working relentlessly to end the drug menace in the State, said Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Sushanta Chowdhury attended the Annual Sports Competition and Prize Distribution programme of Holy Cross School at Durjaynagar near Agartala on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, the State Government is promoting sports to combat the drug menace.
“Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is committed to driving out the drugs and ensuring an addiction-free State for the sake of youths. Apart from raids and tightening vigil, the Government is working to promote sports activities. To this end, we are improving the sports infrastructure”, Chowdhury commented.
The Minister hailed that the relentless efforts of all including the revered Fr George Jacob and other sports teachers of Holy Cross School for the success of the Games were truly commendable.
He said that this year’s Holy Cross School’s annual sports competition in collaboration with teachers and students from all parts of the school, including the school’s principal Father George Jacob, has added new feathers to the school’s glorious history and added a new dimension to the school’s growth. He praised the contestants for their captivating march past and other performances.
Chowdhury said that he was really happy to be involved in the program organized by the Holy Cross school authorities and students for physical and mental development, not just education.
Today’s event was attended by Father George Jacob (Principal and Secretary of Holycross Education Foundation) of Holycross School, Father Adi Paul (Vice Principal), Father John, former Principal of Holycross School and all other teachers of the school.
