By the grace of the Lord Buddha, I was able to leave Ukraine at the last moment before the war started – however, I am really worried about my hostel-mates who are still trapped in the war-torn country.
Mahima Mog while talking to the correspondent after arriving in New Delhi, looked relieved yet the panic and tension were still visible. Mahima daughter of Krishna Mog and Laxmi Rani Mog hails from Shantipara Ambassa. She, a former student of Ambassa Kendriya Vidyala went to Kiev in 2020 to study medical science.
“I am lucky that I could catch the last flight on February 15 last. The Flight reached New Delhi via Dubai. I had to shell out Rs 70,000 to purchase a plane ticket”, Mahima said.
She, however, expressed her deepest concern for her 14 other hostel-mates. “My hostel-mates are still living in danger and unspeakable uncertainty. They have been put up in the basement of the College building. I pray to the Lord Buddha for their safety as well as to end the war immediately. I am constantly in touch with my fellow hostel boarders”, she commented.
Mahima also pointed out there is a serious scarcity of food and drinking water. My friends are facing great difficulties.
Talks regarding impending war were in the air since January last – however, as none of us were aware of how dangerous and horrific a war could be, they did not think much about it. As the situation deteriorated, there was a rush and the sky-rocketing plane fare was a major factor for many of the students studying there.
She hailed the role of the Indian Embassy in Ukraine as well as the Indian Government for conducting safe evacuation of Indian nationals.
Expressing a great relief, Mahima’s father Krishna Mog said, her medical college authority issued several directives briefing the emerging situation. On February 10 last, Mahima told me to send money for her flight back to India. Accordingly, I sent her the money – however, due to some procedural issues of the College authority, Mahima was able to board an India-bound flight on February 15 last and reached New Delhi on the next day.
