The Prime accused in Bangladeshi journalist Mohiuddin Sarkar Naeem murder case, Md Raju was killed in a gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) of Bangladesh in Cumilla on Sunday.
According to sources, the accused Md Raju was killed when he was trying to flee away to India (Tripura) through Golabari border under Burichang Police station. Company Commander of RAB 11 Mejor Md Sakib Hussain confirmed the death of Md Raju. An accused in multiple drug-related cases, Md Raju hailed from Adarsha Sadar Upazila.
On April 13 last, Mohiuddin who hailed from Brahman Para Upazila was lured by drug traffickers into a trap near a bordering area at Burichang. As he reached the spot, his killers started indiscriminate firing on Mohiuddin near the Hyderabad border Rajapur Union in Burichang Upazila.
Jawans of Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) rushed Mohiuddin to the spot after hearing gunshots and took Mohiuddin to a nearby hospital where the attending doctor pronounced him brought dead. He worked with a couple of electronic channels and worked as a Staff Reporter for a local newspaper. Mohiuddin carried out news pertaining to drug smuggling issues which irked the drug traffickers, sources claimed.
After the killing of Mohiuddin, the mother of the victim, Nazma Begum lodged a complaint with police against Md Raju and his three accomplices as well as around five unidentified miscreants. Within 24 hours, Bangladesh Police arrested four persons on Thursday night in connection with Mohiuddin’s murder. The arrested accused persons were Md Farhaad Mridha, Md Palash Mia, Nuru Mia and Sujan Mia.
Meantime, the killing of the prime accused Md Raju brought some sort of solace to the bereaved parents of Mohiuddin. The mother of Mohiuddin, Nazma Begum demanded the culprits should be hanged to death.
According to the informed sources, Md Raju is involved in illegal cross-border trading in association with drug traders of Tripura.
