Nor’wester, locally known as Kaalbaishakhi hit different parts of the State in the intervening nights of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Gusty wind with thunderstorms swept through – even as no casualty has been reported so far, two persons were injured at Jagannath Bari lane in Agartala on Wednesday after gusty wind uprooted a big road side tree.
In the incident a couple of vehicles and shop were also damaged.
Besides, trees were uprooted in other districts and subdivision affecting normal life. Several houses were also damaged.
Nor’wester hit the Book Fair in Udaipur. Stormy wind uprooted the book stalls in the Fair. Large number of books were damaged in the rain.
After a moderate rain fall in the wee hours of Wednesday, people woke up to a cloudy morning followed by brief spells of rains. The sky remained overcast and people got a relief from ongoing heat wave.
Chairperson of Central Zone under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Ratna Datta inspected the water drainage system to prevent water logging in the wake of the rains.
Disruption in Power supply in different areas of Agartala has been reported. Power supply system is affected other parts of the State as well.
Sources said, Disaster Management is constantly watching the development and is in contact with all the districts.
The Weathermen said, since there was large cloud mass noticed over Bangladesh and crawling towards the State, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightening and gusty winds are very likely to continue over most parts of Khowai, West, Sepahijila Gomati, South districts and some parts of Dhalai district for next few hours. The wind velocity remained in between 40-50 kms per hour.
