Agartala April 21, 2022: Traditional Garia Puja is being observed in different parts of the state with due religious fervor. Garia Puja, a popular hindu religious festival of the indigenous people of Tripura in which Bengali hindus also take part in numbers.
A decorated bamboo pole symbolizes Baba Garia. He is considered to be the deity of wealth and livestock.
Every year this Puja starts on the last day Bengali month, Chaitra and the 7-day long puja comes to an end on the seventh day of the month of Baishakh.
On Thursday (April 21), the last of the worship was held across the state
Tripura Sanatani Samaj organised ‘Baba Garia Puja’ at Kshudiram School ground in Agartala on Thursday. A fair was also been organised as an added attraction.
As part of the observance of this Puja, organizers distributed saplings free of cost and held a free eye check up camp. Cultural programs will add musical tunes to the Garia Puja in the evening.
Religious flavour and enthusiasm were in air at another puja mandap in Agartala. Netaji club of Ujan Abhoy nagar conducted Garia Puja today. It was the 30th years of observance of Gariya Puja by the club.
Alongwith other parts across the State, indigenous people of Teliamura also took part in the Garia Puja according to the tradition ritualistic practices.
Dressed in colourful traditional attire, people are enjoying the day. Beaming happiness and religious fervor are evident among the people .
In different hamlets under Teliamura, people are taking ‘Baba Garia’ to every household. Children, young adults and even the elders accompanied the procession with the ‘Baba Garia’ and roamed around the villages.
Speaking about the puja, a youth of Teliamura said it is joyful day for the indigenous communities. We pray to Baba Garia and hope that happiness and prosperity will bloom in our lives with HIS blessings.
