ASF: Mass killing of pigs starts at Devipur
As per the instructions of the Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD) of the Government of Tripura, the mass killing of pigs at ARDD run Devipur farm started on Saturday in full swing.
Sources said there are around two hundred pigs in the farm at present.
The first death of a pig came to light on April 1 last. It is reported that around 100 pigs died since then. Meantime samples of pigs were sent to the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Guwahati for testing on April 13 last.
The test report confirmed the prevalence of the African Swine Fever (ASF) among the pigs in the Devipur firm. With no other options available to combat the ASF, decision to go for mass killing of the pigs of the firm was announced on Friday.
Meantime, the ARDD officials asserted there is nothing to worry and panic.
Tripura NSUI president faces attack
The NSUI State president Samrat Roy was attacked allegedly by supporters of rival students’ body. The incident took place in Udaipur on Saturday when Samrat Roy went there for organizational works, alleged NSUI leaders while addressing a press meet in Agartala.
The NSUI leaders alleged Roy was attacked by some miscreants. The miscreants pelted stones targeting the student leader.
The students wing of Congress, NSUI of Tripura unit is planning to hold protest programmes condemning the attack on its president, leaders commented.
Aunt, nephew commit suicide
In a shocking incident a youth and a woman who were close relatives committed suicide by hanging from a tree at ward no-3 of Uptakhali Bazar under Panisagar Police Station area in North Tripura on Saturday.
Sources said that Sugrib Das found that his nephew Sudip Das (22) alias Garai and latter’s aunt (the wife of Sugrib Das) were hanging from the same tree in a jungle nearby their house. He raised an alarm after noticing his wife and nephew hanging. Immediately the local people informed police at Panisagar Police Station.
Later Police recovered the bodies and took for conducting an autopsy.
