Kisan Mela: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister interacted with farmers

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in collaboration with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), South Tripura organized a one-day KISAN Mela cum Exhibition at ICAR KVK premises in Birchandra Manu, Santirbazar today. The Kisan Mela was inaugurated by Sahakari Sabhadhipati of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Bibhishan Chandra Das.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also interacted with the farmers virtually during ‘Kisan Bhagidari-Prathmikta Humari’ Campaign today.

The week-long campaign started on April 25 under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ for creating awareness and publicity among a large number of farmers across the country about its schemes and programs of it and other allied Ministries. As part of the campaign, a day-long Kisan Mela has been organized at all KVKs across the state in association with ATMA.

While delivering the welcome address, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, South Tripura Biswajit Debnath said, the Mela has been mainly organized for the farmers. The first priority of KVK is for farmers to gain knowledge about modern technology and innovative ideas, as farmers are the backbone of our Indian economy.

During the Kisan Mela, various schemes-related information from both central and the state government was disseminated among the farmers and a workshop on Crop Insurance was organized. Sahakari Sabhadhipati of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Bibhishan Chandra Das said, the state government always stands by and gives priority to the welfare of the farmers.

More than 340 farmers of 8 different blocks under South Tripura have participated in the Mela. During the Kisan Mela, 20 farmers of South Tripura district were felicitated with a trophy and a certificate for their best efforts and extra-ordinary performance in various fields of farming by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Tripura.

Deputy Director of ARDD, Deputy Director of Fisheries Department and Deputy Director of Agriculture department were also present in the inaugural programme of Kishan Mela.
