Tripura Police arrested three persons in connection with the attack on security guard and driver of Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman in Agartala on Sunday.
The three arrestees Snehasis Lahiri, Bappa Nandi and Abdul Sahid were produced before a court on Monday and they all were sent to judicial custody, Oficer-in-Charge of West Agartala police station, told the reporters.
He said a search was also launched to find out the other persons involved the incident.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb talked to the Director General of Police soon after the incident and passed an instruction for taking stern action against the culprits involved in the attack.
Deb said, he would not tolerate breakdown of law and order in any situation. The attack was reportedly committed when Roy Barman, the former BJP legislator, went to the house of advocate Soumik Deb at Krishnanagar in Agartala.
According to Roy Barman, a group of bike borne miscreants launched the attack on his PSO and driver. It is alleged the bike borne miscreants also snatched away the service pistol of the PSO of Roy Barman.
Roy Barman alleged that the miscreants were all BJP activists and they wanted to attack him. Since Roy Barman was inside the house of the advocate, he escaped but the miscreants severely assaulted his PSO and driver. The driver was sent to hospital and the PSO lodged a complaint with the West Agartala Police station.
Roy Barman said there were about 50- 60 youths. Roy Barman said since the house did have CCTV arrangements identification of the assailants could be easily ascertained.
