Resentment among the people is brewing as a housewife of Durgapur area under Kailashahar in Tripura who was allegedly kidnapped by one Raju Ali remained untraced for the last 14 days. The accused person also remains a fugitive.

Venting anger at the Police, activists of Hindu Yuva Vahini burnt tyres and blocked the Kailashahar-Dharmanagar and Kailashahar-Kumarghat roads on Wednesday and demanded immediate police action.

Among others, secretary of the state committee of the Organization Shyamal Sarkar, president of Unakoti District Committee Jhulan Goswami, member of the sub-divisional committee Shibaji Sengupta and others were present in the road blockade programme.

On April 20 last, a housewife of the Durgapur area went to the market, however, as she did not return till the evening, the husband of the housewife lodged a missing complaint with the Kailashahar PS.

The husband claimed he came to know that his wife was kidnapped by Raju Ali who hails from the same area. The husband also lodged a written complaint to this end against Raju Ali on April 21 last.

Hindu Yuva Vahini submitted a deputation to the Kailashahar Police on April 22 demanding the rescue of the housewife and the arrest of the alleged kidnapper. The Hindu Yuva Vahini activists gheraoed the Kailashahar PS on April 27 last. At that time, Police assured that the housewife would be rescued within five-day. Instead of five days, actually, eight days passed after the housewife was kidnapped, yet neither the housewife could be traced nor the accused person was arrested. Amidst simmering resentment, alleged Police failure irked the locals including the Hindu Yuva Vahini and demanded immediate arrest of the culprit and rescue of the kidnapped housewife.

The blockade agitation continued for more than three hours even as Police, TSR and CRPF were deployed in the area. The agitators threatened to intensify the protest unless Police find out the housewife and nab Raju Ali within this month.
