Attack on Forest staff in Tripura: 3 arrested

Police arrested three timber smugglers on Sunday night in connection with an attack on Forest Department personnel of Teliamura in Tripura on Saturday night.

 

In the attack, three forest department staff were injured and one of them, Sankar Gowala sustained serious injuries.   

 

A case against 10 timber smugglers was lodged with the Mungiyakami Police station after the attack. Based on the complaint, police started an investigation and arrested three persons – Alen Debbarma, Goutam Debbarma and Sanjit Debbarma.

 

The menace of the timber smugglers is increasing in Atharomura area and the timber sharks are destroying forests including valuable trees.  

 

Attempt to kill baby girl: Man held

One Prasenjit Shil, in an inebriated condition, attempted to kill his one-and-half-month-old baby girl and left his in-laws wounded on Sunday night at Kailashahar in Tripura. Local people detained Prasenjit and handed over him to the Police.

 

Prasenjit Shil, a resident of Baroitali under Chhantoil gram panchayat in Kailashahar, married Mallika Chandra of Bijit Nagar under Rungrong gram panchayat married after a courtship in 2021. However, after the marriage, Prasenjit Shil reportedly started torturing Mallika. She was staying at her parents’ house since she became pregnant. After Mallika gave birth to a baby girl, Prasenjit Shil tried to kill the baby.

 

On Sunday night, he came to his in-laws’ house and tried to kill his baby girl. The mother-in-law and later, father-in-law of Prasenjit intervened – but the latter assaulted both leaving them wounded. The father-in-law sustained head injuries.  

 

After the commotion, neighbours rushed in and detained Prasenjit Shil and later handed over him to Kailashahar Police.
