Tripura Police arrested five persons in connection with the murder of a Yuva Morcha Mandal president, Mihir Das, at Karamchhara under Dhalai district on May 14 last. Police arrested the accused persons from a house in Kolkata and brought them to Manu Police Station on Sunday.
The Arrested persons are Rajib Das, Jhutan Pal, Bikash Debnath, Sudip Das and Sushanta Dey. All of them were produced before the local Court and the Court sent them to 6-day Police remand.
Miscreants fatally attacked Mihir Das in Karamchhara area under Manu PS while he along with others was returning home on May 14 last. In the attack, Mihir Das was killed while others sustained injuries. A case was lodged to this end at the Manu Police station – however, the accused went into hiding after the incident.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha went to meet the bereaved family members of Mihir Das and the families of the injured Yuva Morcha activists. Apart from extending financial assistance to victims’ family members, the Chief Minister directed the Police to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
Accordingly, SDPO of Ambassa, Suman Majumder was assigned additional responsibility to investigate and take Police action. During the investigation, Police came to know that the accused persons were staying at a rented house at Kalaiyachawk Police station in Kolkata.
Based on the information and with the assistance of Kolkata Police, Tripura Police brought the five accused persons to Manu Police on Sunday. A local court sent the accused persons to 6-day Police remand. SDPO Suman Majumder assured that all the accused persons would be arrested.
