The Left Front of Tripura unit announced its candidates for the June 23 by-polls to four vacant State assembly seats. CPM will contest in three Assembly Constituencies while All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), a Left Front constituent will fight in one.
Tripura will go for by-elections in four assembly constituencies – 6-Agartala, 8-Town Bordowali (Both are in West Tripura district), 46-Surma (SC) in Dhalai and 57-Jubarajnagar under North Tripura District on June 23 this year and the counting of votes will be held on June 26.
Addressing a press conference on Monday Left Front leaders said CPM candidates will contest in three seats – 6 Agartala, 46 Surma and 57 Jubarajnagar while one seat, 8 Bordowali, has been alloted to the All India Forward Bloc.
Announcing the candidate lists the LF leaders named Krishna Majumder of CPM as the candidate to contest from the 6-Agartala assembly constituency, Raghunath Sarkar of All India Forward Bloc for 8-Town Bordowali assembly constituency, Anjan Das for 46-Surma (SC) assembly constituency and Shailendra Chandra Nath for the 57-Jubarajnagar assembly constituency. Both Das and Nath are CPM nominated candidates.
In 2018 Assembly election, CPM lost in all but one seat – Jubarajnagar.
During the press conference the CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhuri demanded the election commission to ensure free and fair polls and also demanded to ensure adequate deployment of Central Paramilitary Forces during the election period.
