At least two people including a woman were killed and five people were injured in lightning strikes in Tripura on Monday (June 13) and Tuesday (June 14).

A woman among two people died and two others were injured after being struck by lightning at Malbasa Gram Panchayat area in Amarpur sub-division under Gomati district on Monday.

The four persons – Mithirum Reang (20), Chasuram Reang (28), Suchitra Reang (30) and Kumarjoy Reang (26) went to Jhum in their village and they took shelter in front of a shop along Amarpur-Gandacherra road following heavy thundershowers on Monday

Suddenly, they were struck by a massive lightning. After noticing the incident, the local villagers shifted all four persons to Amarpur sub-divisional hospital.

The attending medical officer announced Mithirum Reang and Chasuram Reang brought dead while the two other injured persons were referred to Gomati district hospital in a critical condition.

Meantime, three people including two women and a man were seriously injured in lightning strikes in three separate places under Kailashahar Sub-division in Unakoti district in Tripura on Tuesday.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Unakoti district hospital.

The first incident took place at Jiban Tila area of Manuvalley gram panchayat in Kailasahar where a 32-year-old woman was injured in a lightning strike while worshipping at her house.

The injured- Mina Keur, is a tea garden worker by profession. Her condition is very critical, Hima Sinha, a fire department official in Kailasahar told reporters.

In another incident, a housewife, Jayatun Nesha (35), was injured in the Muslim Palli area of Chaintal gram panchayat in Kailashahar in the afternoon she fell unconscious after a lightning strike.

Immediately after the incident, she was brought to the district hospital for treatment by her husband, Mostafa Ali.

Later, in the evening, the third incident took place at the East Irani village of Irani gram panchayat in Kailashahar.

In that incident, a sixty-year-old person fell unconscious when a bolt of lightning struck him. He was talking to other family members at his home at that moment.

The injured- Amar Uddin was rescued by fire department personnel and brought to Unakoti District Hospital for treatment.
