In yet another initiative to empower women, Tripura Government has decided to change the policy relating to the Die-in-Harness scheme and include the married women as beneficiaries of the scheme subject to eligibility criteria, said ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury while briefing the media about the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting in Agartala on Tuesday.

Chaired by the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the cabinet has also decided to recruit persons in 886 posts and create 223 new posts under different departments.

“So long, unmarried daughters, not the married ones, were eligible for availing of the die-in-harness. However, our government has decided that married women will get government jobs under this scheme if their father or mother passes away while on the job within 50 years of age. In such a case, the willing married women will have to obtain NOC from the family members”, the Minister said.

He, however, mentioned that the income of the husband of the willing married woman will be considered. If the husband or son of the married daughter of a deceased government employee is employed in service, such married daughter shall not come under the purview of this scheme.

On recruitment, the Minister said, “decisions were taken to recruit 1000 Police constables under the Home Department on earlier cabinet meeting. While the cabinet, before the by-elections, gave its nod to recruit 500 Police constables – in today’s meeting, the cabinet has green signalled a decision to recruit 500 Police constables”.

The ICA also said, a decision has been taken to recruit 100 Junior Physical Instructors under the Youth Affairs and Sports department and 60 Agriculture Officers through TPSC exams under the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department.

Moreover,  total 25 Supervisors will be recruited under the Social Welfare and Social Education department and 179 Animal Resource Development Assistants will be recruited under the ARDD, Choudhury said and added, total 22 persons will be recruited under the Industries and Commerce department out of which 16 persons for Senior Instructor post and 6 persons for the LDC post, he told the media.

Sushanta Choudhury also talked about cabinet decisions pertaining to the creation of posts under different departments. The cabinet has decided to create 191 posts for Supervisors in the ICDS project under the Social Welfare and Social Education department. Besides, 20 new posts under the labour department and six posts of Youth Organizers under the Youth Affairs and Sports Department will be created, the Minister said.

In another decision, the cabinet gave its nod to use plastic wastage in place of bitumen while constructing roads within 50km periphery of the Agartala city.
