Newly elected Dr Manik Saha will take oath as an MLA of Tripura state Assembly on July 8 next. He submitted his resignation as Rajya Sabha member to Chairman of the RS cum Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu.
Speaking to the media in Agartala on Monday, Speaker of the State Assembly Ratan Chakraborty said, “Dr Saha will resign from the Rajya Sabha seat today and will take oath on July 8”.
Incumbent Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha was elected from 8-Bordowali seat in by polls held on June 23. Three other MLAs – 2 of BJP and one of Congress – were elected in the By-polls.
Three of the elected members – Malina Debnath, Swapna Das Paul ( both from BJP) and Sudip Roy Barman of Congress – took oath on June 28 last. However, Dr Saha did not take oath on that day as he was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from Tripura, earlier.
Dr Manik Saha won the Assembly by-polls from 8-Town Bordowali seat defeating his nearest rival, ex-MLA and ex-BJP leader Asish Saha of Congress.
He polled total 17,181 votes while his rival Asish Saha secured total 11,077 votes. Dr Saha won the by poll by 6104 votes.
