The Agartala Airport has been named after Maharaja Bir Vikram during the present government, 12 blocks inhabited by Janajati people have been declared as ‘Aspirational blocks’, 32 Van Dhan clusters have been formed to purchase forest resources from Janajati people through the Minimum Support Price (MSP), said Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday (Aug 1).
Dr. Saha was speaking in a party programme at Karbook under Gomati District in Tripura today. During the programme, 824 voters from 345 families formally joined the saffron camp and Dr Saha welcomed the new entrants in the party. Joining of voters quitting other political parties is certain to further bolster BJP organization in Janajati dominated areas.
Addressing an impressive gathering, Dr Saha lashed out the previous Left Front government and alleged Left Front used the Janajati as their vote bank, but did not try to develop their socio-economic conditions.
In contrast, he said, incumbent government has been working to improve the living condition of the Janajati people through several developmental and welfare schemes. “That is why trust in BJP has increased among the Janajati people of Tripura”, he opined.
Apart from Van Dhan and Aspirational Block, the state government started a plan to construct three college hostels for ST students, another plan has been taken to set up one 100-bedded boy’s hostel at Shillong.
Elaborating government’s further, The Chief Minister said, initiatives have been taken to transform Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) into Tripura Territorial Council. To ensure adequate representation of sections of all the Janajati communities, plans have been taken to increase the number of seats to 50 in TTAADC.
Dr. Saha also mentioned the Rs. 1300-crore project announced by the government for socio-economic development of the Janajati people.
“No previous government worked in the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working for the development of the Janajati people. The people of the Janajati communities also have realized that only the BJP can ensure their socio-economic growth”, Dr Saha said.
Janajati Welfare minister Ram Pada Jamatia, BJP Gomati district president Abhishek Debroy and other local leaders were present in today’s joining programme at Karbook.
Meanwhile, as part of his visit to Karbook on Sunday, the Chief Minister inspected the newly-built office of the SDM. He also held an administrative meeting with SDM Partha Das and BDO Karbook Devid Halam. Minister Rampada Jamatia was also present in the meeting.
