The leader of the Opposition in Tripura and CPM Politburo member Manik Sarkar fired verbal salvos at the ruling BJP and slammed the ruling party over the electioneering process, proceedings in Parliament and people’s rights.
Speaking at a rally organized by the students wing of CPM – Students’ Federation of India (SFI) – Sarkar alleged the incumbent party has turned election into a ‘farce’. He even criticized the role of the Election Commission of India.
Sarkar alleged the ruling party is using money and muscle power in the election making it a travesty. Moreover, with the BJP in power, the secularism and federal structure of the country are in peril, Sarkar alleged.
Continuing his verbal salvo, Sarkar also blamed the ruling party for throttling democracy and diminishing people’s rights.
Taking a swipe at the Election Commission of India (ECI), the CPM Politburo leader alleged the institutions which are to protect the constitution and democracy are under attack now.
He added, the ECI is supposed to create a level playing ground for all the Political parties – both the ruling and opposition parties. However, the institutions like ECI are unable to play its role properly – as a result election which is an integral part of the Indian democracy is becoming farcical.
In his long speech, Sarkar also referred to the Parliament. He alleged, “The Lok Sabha has turned into a stage for puppet show now”,
Explaining further he added, in the Lok Sabha 15-16 Bills are passed in a day leaving no scope for discussions under the rule of this BJP government. Without bothering about the opposition parties’ opinion, the government is passing the bills”.
According Manik Sarkar it is an attempt to attack the foundation of Parliamentary democracy.”
