Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government is working tirelessly to fulfil the basic dream of country’s people – houses have been provided under Awas Yojana and pure drinking water is being ensured through the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), said Drinking and Water Supply (DWS) Minister of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury.
While taking part in a review meeting at Kumarghat under Unakoti district on Tuesday (Aug 16), Chowdhury added, the Tripura government is implementing the JJM in a mIssion mode
The DWS Minister said, as per the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the able leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the Tripura government is working on a mission mode to ensure piped drinking water facility to every household.
He said, the target is to provide piped drinking water to 7.41 lakh households in the state while around 4 lakh households have already received the facility. He stressed on achieving 80-85 per cent target by October this year.
Meanwhile, the DWS minister is holding review meetings every month at different parts of the state to maintain the flow of the works with a focus on quality.
According to Chowdhury, the Jal Jeevan Mission would benefit the rural women to a great extent because they have to collect water from the places far away from home as well as the skilled labourers like plumbers, masons, electricians and pump operators would be involved in this project for the works in rural areas. This will benefit the rural youths.
According to the DWS department, a target has been set to extend the benefit under Jal Jeevan Mission to 20,539 households in Unakoti district in the current financial year.
“60 per cent households in Unakoti districts have been brought under the JJM while remaining 40 per cent will be covered within next few months”, the Minister said.
SC Welfare minister Bhagaban Chandra Das, Sabhadhipati of Unakoti Zila Parishad Amalendu Das, MLA Fatikroy Sudhangshu Das, Block Development Officers, chairmen and vice-chairmen of local Panchayat Samities, Engineer-in-Chief (DWS) Shyamlal Bhowmik and superintendent engineer Rajib Majumder along with other officials including District Magistate, Unakoti- Uttam Kumar Chakma and SP Unakoti Kishore Debbarma were present in the review meeting.
