Amidst wide spread speculation that Subal Bhowmik, known for changing political colours, is once again set to change his political loyalty, Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev said Bhowmik is still the president of Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress.

Subal Bhowmik returned to Congress after quitting BJP just before the last Lok Sabha elections. He contested from West Parliamentary Constituency on a Congress ticket and tasted a defeat. In Congress, he soon found himself isolated. Later, he rejoined TMC in 2021.

He also had a stint with the TMC before he joined BJP in the run up to 2018 Assembly polls. Just few months ago, Bhowmik was made the president of Tripura Pradesh TMC.

However, under his leadership, TMC had a humiliating performance in the by-polls to four Assembly constituencies. He was also not seen as frequently as earlier โ€“ this sparked a speculation that Bhowmik โ€“ again in the run up to 2023 Assembly polls โ€“ may rejoin BJP.

Even as he did not make any comment on this speculation, TMC MP Sushmita Dev, while interacting with the media in Belonia under South Tripura said, I do not know anything about this, he is still in charge of Tripura Trinamool Pradesh president.

Dev was attending a rally followed by a public meeting at Belonia on Monday in support of its scheduled Raj Bhawan Abhiyan on August 29 next. Addressing the gathering,

Dev slammed the BJP government for the rapid increase in unemployment and prices of essential commodities. She also alleged BJP is an anti-farmer party.

Dev also highlighted various schemes of the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government. She urged people to be united against the ruling BJP.
