The state of Tripura has 16 percent of its population belonging to the ‘Other Backward Class’ (OBC) and Minorities. The government is implementing various schemes for the welfare of OBC and minorities.
In particular, the government is giving people of these categories opportunities for education and livelihood by providing loans, Minister of OBC and Minorities Department Ramprasad Pal said in Agartala on Saturday (November 5).
He said the existence of the loans given to the beneficiaries during the previous government cannot be traced because at that time, the concerned department did not collect the loan within the specified period. But during the tenure of the present government, besides disbursement of loans, collection of loans has increased.
The Minister pointed out, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahoutsav, several awareness programmes along with camps for collecting loan repayments were also held.
Meanwhile, the official of other backward department Nirmal Adhikari said that 928 people have been supported for treatment in other States from the budget for poor people in the last five years. Rs. 29 lakh 64 thousand were spent for this.
Vidyasagar Social Culture Award for social work has been given to eight people in 2021-22. He said that 1,327 people have been given loans of Rs 43 crore 10 lakh in the last four years.
The besides, details of scholarships provided to students of OBC and Minorities, implementation of various livelihood scheme of the Central and the State Governments were also highlighted.
