The last rites of Narendra Chandra Debbarma, the Revenue Minister of Tripura and also the founder of the ruling coalition partner IPFT were performed with full state honours at his ancestral home in Maharani’s Nashirai para at Kalyanpur under Khowai district on Monday (Jan 2).

 

People from different areas rushed there to pay their last respect to the veteran leader today.

 

As per the Government’s decision to conduct NC Debbarma’s last rites with full State honours, Tripura Police IG Soumitra Dhar, District Superintendent of Police Ratiranjan Debnath, Khowai District Magistrate DK Chakma, Teliamura Sub Divisional Police Officer Prasun Kanti Tripura, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhijit Chakraborty, Commandants of TSR 12, 10 and 6 Battalion, Forest Officer of Khowai District along Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Krishnapur MLA Atul Debbarma, EM of the TTAADC Kamal Kalai, District Forest Officer, Congress leader Shabda Kumar Jamatia and other dignitaries remained present at the funeral ceremony.

 

The senior most member of the State Cabinet, popularly known as NC Debbarma breathed his last at the GB Hospital on January 1.

 

His mortal remains were kept at his Agartala residence yesterday and political leaders of the State including Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, MoS Pratima Bhowmik, RS MP Biplab Kumar Deb, CPIM leaders – Manik Sarkar and Jiten Choudhury and others went to his residence last evening to pay homage to the departed leader.

 

Today, his final journey started and reached Akashbani Office where he worked as Station Director before starting his political career. Employees and Staffs of AIR Agartala paid their last respect to NC Debbarma.

 

Later, his mortal remains were taken to the Tripura Legislative Assembly where speaker of the House Ratan Chakraborty, the Chief Minister and other Ministers and MLAs paid floral tributes.  

 

Commenting on the demise of NC Debbarma, the speaker said the departed leader made significant contributions for the welfare of the people of the State. Despite his frail health, Debbarma continued to serve the people by discharging his duties. He will be remembered for his leadership qualities and dedication for his works.
