The state government of Tripura has announced plans to launch a new bamboo-based industries project on abandoned Sonamukhi Tea garden at Kailashahar under Unakoti district in Tripura.
The project will be executed on 65 acres of land out of 250 acres of the Sonamukhi tea garden, with a full-scale agarbatti industry being the centerpiece.
The Youth and Sports minister of Tripura, Tinku Roy, said that the project will create 1500 jobs initially and cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 109 crore. The primary aim of the project is to exploit the bamboo potential of Tripura while providing employment opportunities for young people.
During a visit to the site on April 16 last, Minister Tinku Roy said that the project would commence soon at the Sonamukhi tea garden, with everything from manufacturing to marketing being taken care of through a proper chain.
The government’s plan to promote the bamboo industry is part of a broader strategy to leverage the state’s abundant natural resources while also generating employment opportunities.
The Sonamukhi tea garden in Kailashahar, spread over 250 acres, was declared khaas land by the state government a few years ago after it was left abandoned and later the land was handed over to the industrial department.
Tinku Roy assured the public that work on the project would begin soon, and the project would offer young people excellent opportunities to enhance their careers in the bamboo sector.
He also said that plans to establish a significant bamboo-based project in the region, which includes incense sticks and other bamboo-based industries, will have a positive impact on the economy of the district and its neighbourhood.
Tinku Roy further asserted that if the industry based on bamboo is established in this area, it will create many jobs and develop other bamboo cane industries and benefit people engaged with bamboo sector including traders.
The new bamboo-based industry project is a step towards creating a sustainable economy for the state while also providing much-needed employment opportunities for young people, the Minister opined.
According to the local people, the government’s vision to promote and utilise the state’s natural resources to drive economic growth is a welcome move that could potentially benefit the entire region.
