In a powerful display of determination and also frustration, local women have taken a stand against illicit liquor, ganja and drug selling in their community, demanding immediate action from the authorities. Frustrated by the rampant drug trade and the resulting social consequences, these women rallied together to confront the drug dealers head-on.

The incident unfolded in Batadhepa, located in East Gokulpur, Bishalgarh, where selling illicit liquor and addictive items is rampant. It was alleged 5-6 families are involved in drug trafficking, and had been operating with impunity, despite repeated reports from concerned locals. The women of Batadhepa, who had borne the brunt of the drug-related problems, had reached a breaking point and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Tired of witnessing their community succumb to the perils of addiction, the women gathered in solidarity and initiated a direct confrontation with the drug dealers and attacked the suspected houses.

“We could raid in two houses from where we found liquor bottles and other materials used for addiction”, claimed one of the women armed with a stick in her hand.

Although the dealers managed to evade capture on this occasion, the women’s actions demonstrated their unwavering resolve to put an end to the drug trade that had wrought havoc on their lives.

These women, often the primary caregivers and pillars of their households, had experienced firsthand the detrimental impact of addiction. They recounted stories of husbands and sons returning home in an intoxicated state, causing chaos and inflicting physical and emotional harm on their loved ones. The burden of addiction had plunged families into poverty as hard-earned resources were squandered on drugs, leaving wives and children to bear the consequences.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the local police, along with TSR jawans, swiftly arrived at the scene in response to the women’s actions. While the police successfully dissuaded the women from further pursuing their vigilantism, they assured the community that decisive measures would be taken against the drug dealers.
