Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee swiftly responded to the CBI’s interrogation of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in connection with the school recruitment case in West Bengal. Within just one hour after the interrogation started, she took to Twitter to deliver a fiery message denouncing the alleged exploitation of central agencies in the country.
Banerjee referred to March 20, 2011, the historic day when she assumed office as the chief minister, ending the 34-year-old Left Front rule in the state. She highlighted that the “excesses” committed by central agencies are making it more challenging for her government to serve the people.
“On this day, in 2011, we were sworn in to replace a 34-year-old oppressive regime and establish the Ma Mati Manush government in West Bengal. We renew the pledge today and re-dedicate ourselves to the cause of the people. The agency-raj of an authoritarian government at the centre makes our task challenging, but millions across the country are with us in our march. Long live May 20,” stated the chief minister.
Banerjee had earlier stated that central agencies like the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) fear the Trinamool Congress due to its immense popularity among the common people. She emphasized that her party represents the common people and enjoys their support.
“The ED and CBI are extremely scared of the Trinamool Congress. This is because Trinamool Congress is with common people and the common people are with Trinamool Congress. Our party is constituted of the common people,” tweeted Mamata Banerjee.
Banerjee accused the Union government and BJP of conspiring against her party using the central investigation agencies, vowing to continue her struggle against the BJP.
The CBI’s interrogation of Abhishek Banerjee has sparked intense political debates, with the Trinamool Congress alleging political motives behind the move to undermine their prominence in West Bengal. Banerjee’s firm stance against the alleged misuse of central agencies highlights the challenges her government is facing after uncovering of large scale scams involving several top Trinamool Congress leaders including Partha Chatterjee, Anubrata Mandal and others.
