Following a marathon 9-hour and 20-minute questioning session by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding his alleged involvement in the teachers’ recruitment scam in state-run schools, Abhishek Banerjee, the national General Secretary of Trinamool Congress, dismissed the outcome of the probe as a complete failure.
Banerjee expressed his disappointment with the investigation, stating, “The outcome of this lengthy interrogation is nothing but a big zero. It was a complete waste of time, both for me and the interrogators. I am unable to disclose the details of the questioning due to propriety, but the entire exercise proved to be futile,” Banerjee told reporters after leaving the CBI’s Nizam Palace office at approximately 9:40 p.m.
Banerjee further alleged that he has become the primary target of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other central investigative agencies.
“If I was summoned solely because Kuntal Ghosh mentioned my name, why hasn’t the CBI interrogated the person named by Sudipta Sen, an accused in the Saradha chit fund case? Sen had identified Suvendu Adhikari and Sujan Chakraborty as beneficiaries of the scam. Why isn’t the CBI questioning the individual mentioned in the CBI’s FIR in the Narada sting operation case?” Banerjee questioned.
Banerjee also criticized the CBI’s decision to summon him on such short notice.
“They physically delivered the notice to my residence on Friday while I was in Bankura as part of my mass outreach program. Shouldn’t they have allowed me more time? Why should the rules be different for me compared to BJP leaders?” he queried.
Banerjee pointed out that in the past, the Congress party had also employed the CBI against opposition forces, and now the BJP is doing the same.
“The actions of these central agencies are simply aimed at disrupting my outreach program. However, I will not yield to any pressure under any circumstances,” he asserted.
The Trinamool MP also revealed that since he had already filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court regarding the matter, he could have avoided the questioning session on Saturday.
“But I made it a point to be present here and face the interrogation,” he concluded.(Edited)
